PAGASA – PAGASA recently said that Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Kalayaan Islands as Typhoon Quinta strengthens further.

The 5 p.m. severe weather bulletin from the state bureau says that the eye of Quinta was last spotted at about 310 kilometers north northwest of Kalayaan Islands, Palawan as of 4 PM.

According to GMA News, it is packed with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 190 kilometers per hour. It is moving westward at 30 kilometers per hour.

The weather system is expected to move generally west-northwestward or westward towards the central part of Vietnam and will further intensify over the West Philippine Sea.

It is expected to reach its peak intensity within 12 hours.

Based on the report, light to moderate with ocassionally heavy rains will be faced over Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Batanes, Cagayan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan (including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands), Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi from this evening up to Wednesday morning.

Residents were urged to prepare for possible flash floods and landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall. Kalayaan Islands will also face strong breeze to near gale conditions.

Meanwhile, the northeasterlies will bring strong breeze to gale conditions over Batanes, northern Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte, while occasional gusts associated with the outer circulation of Quinta will be experienced over MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and the western section of Luzon.

For sea conditions, the northern and western seaboards of Luzon will face rough to very rough seas.

On the other hand, the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Palawan including Cuyo Islands, the southern seaboards of Mindoro Provinces, and the western seaboards of Western Visayas will face rough to very rough seas.

Meanwhile, the bureau earlier said that the low pressure area (LPA) east of the country might enhance into a tropical depression.

It expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday or Thursday, and is more likely to develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours and will be named “Rolly”.
