Typhoon Depression Quinta Raises Red Alert In Bicol
TYPHOON DEPRESSION QUINTA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a “Red Alert” weather advisory in Bicol.
Following Pepito, a low-pressure area (LPA) is set to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility and hit the Bicol Region. As such, PAGASA raised a Red Alert as it announced that the LPA would develop into a tropical depression called “Quinta”.
According to the PAGASA briefing, TD Quinta would be directed to Bicol and would most likely hit the region from Sunday until Monday. The state-run weather bureau also noted that Quinta might make landfall around Sorsogon on Monday Morning.
Meanwhile, Gremil Naz, Office of Civil Defence (OCD) Bicol spokesperson said they forecast Quinta to produce moderate to heavy rains. Additionally, the spokesperson noted that Bicol may experience floods, mudflow, storm surges, and landslides in low-lying and mountain slopes in the region.
With the Red Alert Status, Bicol OCD urged local disaster councils to monitor PAGASA for advisories regarding the latest LPA. Along with this, response teams have been placed on standby in the event that the weather disturbance worsens.
