Stand of Pres. Duterte on the Issue About the Speakership of the House of Representatives

DUTERTE – Malacanang revealed the stand of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on the issue about the House of Representatives’ speakership.

Currently, the House of Representatives is dealing with a huge issue – the speakership of the lower chamber. There are fractions over the term-sharing agreement between House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco.

Velasco is pushing for the respect of the term-sharing agreement which was supposed to start this October 15. On the camp of Cayetano, some lawmakers are stressing their disagreement on changing the speaker of the House amid the national crisis.

Undeniably, the House speakership has affected some proceedings in the lower chamber. One of it is the 2021 national budget.

Previously, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has warned the House of Representatives to fix the issue or he will be the one to solve it. He is concern over the delay on the passing of the 2021 national budget.

Recently, Malacanang spoke on the stand of Pres. Duterte over the House speakership issue involving House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stressed that the President is not taking a side on the House speakership issue. He also said that the Chief Executive is not intervening on the issue.

According to the Presidential Spokesperson, the concern of the President is the passing of the national budget. Based on the report, he is calling for the lawmakers to set aside the issue so the proceedings regarding the national budget can resume.

Roque said that the President certified that the P4.5-trillion proposed budget is an urgent matter. He clarified that he is not interfering in choosing the House Speaker.
