Water Allocation In Metro Manila Lowers In October Due To Angat Dam Levels

WATER ALLOCATION IN METRO MANILA – The water allocation in the Metro would be lowered starting October 1 due to the continued lowering levels of Angat Dam.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) Exec. Dir. Sevillo David Jr stated that the level of the Angat dam has gone 3 meters below the minimum operating level. Usually, the operating water level for the damn to supply enough water is 180m.

Furthermore, to manage the relatively low level of the dam, some compromises had to made. As per the report, the NWRB board approved allocating 44 cubic meters per second for MWSS. Meanwhile, NIA would be allocated 25 cubic meters per second.

The Angat Dam is the main water source of water supply concessionaries of Metro Manila. Still, Sevillo David Jr. emphasized that this would be slightly lower than the allocation for September at 46 cubic meters per second for MWSS and 30 cubic meters per second for NIA.

Considering the level of the Angat Dam at around 3 meters below the minimum operating level of 180m and to manage the relatively low level of the dam, the Board approved the allocation of 44 cubic meters per second for MWSS and 25 cms for NIA for the Month of October. This is slightly lower than the allocation of Sept at 46 cms and 30 cms respectively.
