Pres. Duterte May Release Decision on Physical Distancing in Public Transportation on Sept. 21

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is expected to make a decision on transport distancing on September 21.

A lot of changes were caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the different countries and territories across the globe. Over 200 nations and territories confirmed cases of the said disease.

The Philippines is one of the countries with cases of COVID-19. As of this writing, the Department of Health (DOH) has logged a total of 276,289 cases of the disease including 276,289 deaths and 208,096 recoveries.

Currently, everyone is required to wear a face mask when going outdoors. Shopping malls and other public establishments also require a face shield upon entry. The practice of social distancing must also be observed.

The distancing is observed even in public transportation like jeepneys. That is why there is a reduced capacity and jeepney drivers had to install plastic covers that create a division between passengers inside the vehicle.

Recently, the authorities did not arrive to a concensus on the distancing inside the public transportation. They are divided between a one-meter distancing and a 0.75-meter distancing.

Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is set to decide on the transport distancing. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said that the President is expected to release his decision on Monday, September 21.

According to Roque, the President still awaits the report of the COVID-19 Task Force on the matter. The Chief Executive will be studying the said report which is due to be submitted today.

While Pres. Duterte has yet to give his decision on the transport distancing, the passengers of public transportation must observed a one-meter distancing inside the public transport.
