Fabric Stores in Divisoria Selling Items with Logos of Luxury Brand Raided
Several fabric stores in Divisoria were raided by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for selling items with luxury brand logos.
Based on the report of ABS-CBN News, NBI personnel on Wednesday raided several textile stores in Divisoria, Manila over a complaint by French luxury brand Louis Vuitton (LV). Divisoria has been the place where people can buy cheap designer brands.
Meanwhile, the NBI Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Division entered the establishments after it was discovered that they were selling fabrics printed with the famous LV monogram and logo.
The fabrics are said to be sold for P150 per kilo to the seamstresses, who in turn make LV-like face masks. The raid prompted when the Hong Kong-based representative of the designer brand file a complaint against them.
“Pumunta rito ‘yung representative ng LV na based sa Hong Kong. Nagrereklamo sila na ‘yung logo nila ginagamit sa paggawa ng face mask kasi ito ang naging trend,” said Glenn Ricarte, NBI-IPR chief.

Saleswoman Marichu Guinoo was still wearing a face mask with the LV logo when the NBI attacked. She admitted that she is selling the mask for P20 per piece.
“Mabenta siya nu’ng umpisa. Siyempre gusto rin namin kumita, ginaya namin,” she said.
Even among vendors, fake masks are widespread. According to the NBI, LV clarified that they do not sell masks in the Philippines.
“Gusto nilang hindi gamitin ang logo nila dahil pinangangalagaan nila ito… Kung hindi naman kayo awtorisado magtinda huwag na kayo magbenta,” said Ricarte.
13 stalls were found selling such fabric which was confiscated by the NBI. Owners of trademark infringement stores will be charged, where they can be jailed for 2 to 5 years, in addition to a fine.
