Magnitude 6.6 earthquake hits Vanuatu

EARTHQUAKE – A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 strikes off Vanuatu on September 7, 2020 at 2:13 PM (Philippine Standard Time).

An earthquake is a natural occurrence that happens without any signs to which after the mainshock, an aftershock follow oftentimes. It never happened and so unlikely that scientists will be able to predict this to take place.

Now, with the location at 17.1 °S, 168.5 °E and depth of 10 km, a 6.6 quake jolted Vanuatu on September 7, 2020 at 2:13 PM based on Philippine Standard Time (PST). After the strong jolting, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) released an announcement that there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this shaking.

This followed a magnitude 6.3 quake that jolted the Pacific island nation on Sunday.

Vanuatu is an island country located in the South Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, in the country, 7.1 magnitude quake occurred in Davao Oriental which is the strongest shaking ever recorded in Philippine history. The strong quakes that occurred in the country has made many people fear the “Big One“ to happen. Since this kind of calamity happens with no signs, authorities advised the public to seek and wait for factual information and not panic.
