Sen. Ping Lacson Airs Proposal Over PhilHealth Corruption Issues

LACSON – Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson wants Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III fired amid the PhilHealth corruption issues.

One of the biggest controversies that sparked this 2020 is the alleged corruption in the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation of more commonly called as PhilHealth.

A huge part of the Filipino populace is a member of PhilHealth. Many Filipinos rely to the state-run health insurance firm for medical emergencies. That is why many people were alarmed with one of its officials said that PhilHealth may go bankrupt if the COVID-19 pandemic will persist.

The said statement came amid the hearing over the alleged corruption in PhilHealth. One of its former officer threw the accusation that was abruptly denied by former PhilHealth Chief Ricardo Morales.

Amid the corruption issues, Morales resigned from his post following President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s advice over his health. Former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) chief Dante Gierran was appointed to succeed Morales.

Several officials of PhilHealth signed a bank secrecy waiver. It allows the Anti-Money Laundering Council to check on their bank accounts in the light of the investigation.

Recently, Sen. Ping Lacson aired his side over the corruption issues involving PhilHealth. In a Tweet, the Senator suggested removing the “ex-officio chairman” of the body or DOH Sec. Francisco Duque III instead of granting Pres. Duterte emergency powers.

The said emergency powers are set to allow the President to reorganize PhilHealth. Sen. Lacson posted another message on Twitter:
