CDC Readies Vaccine Distribution On November 1

CDC Readies States For Vaccine Distribution Come November 1

CDC READIES VACCINE DISTRIBUTION – The federal government announced that states should prep for a COVID-19 vaccine distribution on November 1.

However, this announcement was met with public criticism as the timing of the vaccine approval felt politically motivated. According to a report from Inquirer, health experts in the US worry that the vaccine approval would be driven by political considerations ahead of the presidential elections as opposed to scientific findings.

Meanwhile, back on August 27, Robert Redfield, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention wrote a letter to states asking for assistance with vaccine distribution. As per the report, Redfield wrote:

“CDC urgently requests your assistance in expediting applications for these distribution facilities and, if necessary, asks that you consider waiving requirements that would prevent these facilities from becoming fully operational by November 1, 2020″

However, public health experts pointed out that with finals trials for vaccines are still halfway done, there’s still insufficient data to safely say it would be ready for public release. Furthermore, they emphasized that vaccines are two doses each, given a month apart.

The public health community wants a safe and effective vaccine as much as anybody could want it.. But the data has to be clear and compelling, that the vaccine is effective and that it’s safe, said infectious disease expert Michael Osterholm.

On November 3, the US Presidential Elections would begin. This would be 2 days ahead of the proposed vaccine distribution date, prompting experts to say that the approval was politically motivated.
