According to an article from Inquirer, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña stated:

Ang hangad natin ay ma-address ang symptoms gaya ng ubo, lagnat at mga sore throat. Kasi malaking bagay kung giginhawa ang ating pasyente na mild cases dyan sa mga symptoms na ‘yan.

Lagundi has long been proven as an effect treatment for cough, one of the most common symptoms for the new respiratory disease. Along with this, the DOST is also conducting clinical trials for Virgin Coconut Oil to study its effectiveness against the virus.

Virgin coconut oil has a natural antiseptic that researchers said could potentially kill the virus. Along with this, it also strengthens the body’s immune system to further protect it from the new coronavirus, COVID-19.

As per the article, Dela Peña said the trials would have participants from three quarantine centers, the Quezon Institute quarantine center, Sta. Ana Hospital, and Philippine National Police-National Capital Region community quarantine center.
