Duterte Now Open For Revolutionary Government Talks

Duterte Now Open For Revolutionary Government Following Snub

DUTERTE OPEN FOR TALKS – Recently, Revolutionary Government supporters made waves in local media. However, it initially seemed that President Rodrigo Duterte wanted nothing to do with them.

Following the supporter’s call for the revolutionary government, President Duterte snubbed the group and said he doesn’t know them. Because of this, the group turned to Vice President Leni Robredo as an alternative but emphasized they don’t like her for the post.

But, during Duterte’s public address about the government’s coronavirus response, he now mentioned that he would be open for talks of a revolutionary government. According to a report from ABS-CBN, Duterte said:

“Sabi ko nga, ‘yung revolutionary government should not be discussed in Sub Rosa, it should be discussed publicly, including the military, they should be able to say what they want. . .

Kung meron silang gustong pagbabago, then let us hear them out..”

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque emphasized that as for now, Duterte remains firm on his stance that the Philippines doesn’t need a revolutionary government. However, Duterte had previously talked about such a government back in 2017.

But, as per the report, Duterte’s timing with the topic raised questions as nobody asked about the revolutionary government during his address. As such, leaders of several institutions now ask why Duterte would talk about a revolutionary government in the middle of a public health crisis.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Ateneo School of Government Dean, Prof. Ronald Mendoza stated that it was deeply troubling that the President would mention the rev gov. “He needs to understand how divisive this idea is and all the legal and constitutional issues attached to it”, Mendoza added.
