Manila Mayors Want Another GCQ On September 1

METRO MANILA GCQ – Mayors of Metro Manila collectively decided that they wanted to impose another round of a general community quarantine (GCQ).

It seems like the Philippines’ quarantine period would never come to an end as we approach the Christmas season. After a 15 day quarantine period, another one is imposed. This has been a common theme since March when the first quarantine was imposed.

Now, Mayors from the most COVID-hit province in the Philippines is calling for another set of GCQ. However, this time the mayors vowed to improve the capacity of medical facilities and the enforcement of health protocols.

According to an article from CNN, Metro Manila Council Chairman, and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, all the mayors of the province decided to impose a GCQ from September 1 to 15. Furthermore, he said that they have presented their recommendation to the COVID-19 ask force last Sunday.

Olivarez added that imposing another general community quarantine was a unanimous decision between all local chief executives in the province. Meanwhile, the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 would present the recommendation to President Rodrigo Duterte, who is set to meet with the IATF tonight.

However, the mayors also recommended to shorten curfew ours starting Tuesday in a bid to slowly open to economy. Previously, the curfew was from 8pm-5am. Now, the recommended curfew hours would begin from 10pm-5am.

Moreover, Olivarez said they would continue to build isolation facilities to cater mild cases of COVID-19 and to monitor suspected cases. Along with this, localized lockdowns in areas with clusters of coronavirus cases would also be imposed.
