UP Jeepney Drivers Found an Alternative to Earn Money Amid Pandemic
The UP jeepney drivers finally found a new way to earn money amid ‘tigil-pasada’ due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Over the past few months, the coronavirus disease continues to spread in various countries all around the world and affects millions of people. The health crisis does not only affect the public’s health but the global economy as well.
The jeepney drivers in the Philippines are only some of the residents affected by the pandemic. Most of them could not yet resume working due to the enforced quarantine being implemented over some parts of the country.
Recently, the members of the UP Jeepney Drivers’ Association are offering delivery services like Grab, Lalamove, and other delivery apps. The drivers could deliver foods, parcels, and other types of products to the customers so they could earn money.
The 48-year-old president of UP Campus-Balara drivers Ernesto dela Paz said that the customers could contact him through his mobile no. 0918-2122897 because they have no mobile application for their service.
“Ako na ang bahalang magsabi sa mga member namin, pero hanggang sa Quezon City lang po ang delivery namin. Yung mga jeepney ang gagamitin namin sa pagde-deliver.” Dela Paz said.
However, Ernesto expressed his concern about the heartless customers making fake bookings. He also said that some of the drivers doesn’t have their own jeepney and just renting.
Most jeepney drivers are struggling financially after the Philippine government placed some parts of the country under an enforced quarantine since March 15, 2020. They are also hoping that the pandemic would end soon so they could go back to their normal life.
