DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte released a message on the Ninoy Aquino Day today, August 21.

The late former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. is undeniably one of the most notable personalities in Philippine politics. He and his wife, the late former Pres. Corazon “Cory” Aquino, are treated as the heroes of democracy.

He was imprisoned but he continues to fight for democracy. He and his family moved to the United States after he suffered from a heart attack for his medical treatment.

Upon his return to the Philippines last August 21, 1983, the late former Senator was shot at the airport. It is now the Ninoy Aquino International Airport or the NAIA.

Today, the Filipino people are commemorating the death of the late former Sen. Ninoy Aquino Jr. Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte released a message in line with the event based on a report on ABS-CBN News.

In his message, the President stated that the life and work of the late former Senator has “uplifted the lives of many, especially the oppressed and marginalized”.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines now, Pres. Duterte is hoping that the Filipinos will emulate the courage an patriotism of Ninoy to be heroes of “discipline, goodwill and social responsibility”.

Based on the report, the President also called for unity for the safety everyone. He is also hoping that those who do well in life will generously share their resources to those who are in need. Here’s the statement of the Chief Executive as posted by Arianne Merez:
