Ocean Level in Cataingan, Masbate Increases After Hit by Powerful Quake
The ocean level in Brgy. Matayum, Cataingan, Masbate reportedly increased after struck by a magnitude 6.6 earthquake.
On Tuesday morning (August 18, 2020), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded a magnitude 6.6 earthquake in Masbate. The quake causes damage to several buildings and establishments.
The powerful tremor also causes fear and panic to the quake-affected residents. Four people suffered minor injuries and some residents have gone missing due to the quake, according to some reports.
A Facebook user named Jethro B. Naval has shared the photo of the alleged increasing level of the sea in Brgy. Matayum after the powerful tremor. The photo is now circulating online and elicits comments from the netizens.
In the photo, it can be seen that several houses were immersed in floodwater due to the increase in sea level. Naval said that the sea level increase after the strong earthquake struck the area.
