Photos Show Aftermath Of Earthquake in Masbate
MASBATE EARTHQUAKE – These photos show the aftermath of the strong earthquake in Masbate province.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that an earthquake with a magnitude 6.5 struck Masbate province on Tuesday. The powerful quake also rattled neighboring areas.
The state seismologists said it was felt at a “moderately strong” intensity 4 in Legaspi, Albay; Mapanas, Northern Samar; and Lezo, Aklan. Intensity 3 was felt in Iloilo City.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said the earthquake in Masbate was caused by the Philippine fault. On April 22, the agency recorded a 6.1 earthquake in Zambales. The shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big-One.” They advised people not to panic and wait for factual information.
Solidum said the tremor will not cause a tsunami. However, residents should expect aftershocks and damage to property. “Iyong possibility na magkaroon po ng mas malaking magnitude na earthquake, hindi natin puwedeng alisin. Pero most likely, karamihan dyan ay mas maliit na,” he said.
