Miss World canceled its pageant this 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a statement from chairman and CEO Julia Morley confirmed this.

The said pageant that is based in London is the longest-running beauty contest in the history of pageantry.

Beauty pageants have become a big part of the culture of people around the globe. For Filipinos, this is one of the most celebrated events every year. This year, local pageant were also postponed due to the health crisis.

Apparently, this will be the same scenario in international pageants. Based on the article from Maniila Bulletin, through a post on Facebook, the Miss World Chief Executive Officer released this statement regarding the cancellation of the pageant this year.

It was said that the pageant for 2020 will be held in the latter part of 2021 and the host country is yet to be announced.

“We have made the decision to delay the 70th Miss World Final. Safety is paramount as we continue the fight against Covid 19 – We look forward to welcoming the Miss World family to our very special celebrations next year. (updated program and schedule will follow soon),” the pageant organization stated.

Based on the report, the MW 2020 pageant is the second prestigious international pageant that announced its postponement. Earlier, Miss International has also announced that its pageant will not happen this year.

Meanwhile, the Miss World Philippines organization announced just recently that it was able to acquire the franchise of Miss Supranational which was formerly under the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc.
