Philippines Importing COVID-19 – Taiwanese Health Officials Reports Virus Coming From PH

PHILIPPINES IMPORTING COVID-19 – Recently, health authorities from Taiwan documented 5 new cases of COVID-19, 4 of which had travel history to the Philippines.

Earlier, the government decided that they would lift the ban on international flights on August 1. However, foreigners from other countries were banned from from entering the Philippines as it was deemed “unsafe” for travel.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) identified the four cases as #463, #465, #466, and #467. Meanwhile, the other infected individual, #464 had travel history to Hong Kong.

Currently, the infected patients were placed under quarantine by Taiwanese officials. One of the patients, #463 was a 50-year-old man who worked in the Philippines last March. Following this, the patient developed symptoms of COVID-19 on July 21. His symptoms included:

  • fever
  • cough
  • abnormal smell
  • diarrhea,
  • general fatigue.

Additionally, case #465 was identified as a 30-year-old man that was working in the Philippines. As per the article, he also developed abnormal smell and taste, cough, sore throat, and muscles aches on June 19. The man went to get a rapid test on the same day but tested negative for the virus then.

Cases #466 and #467 were identified as a couple both aged around 70-years-old. Health officials said they traveled to the Philippines to visit relatives last January. Afterward, case 467 said he developed symptoms on July 12. However, case #466 had no symptoms when they entered Taiwan, but, #467 reported symptoms before boarding and entering the country.
