Sylvia Sanchez Remembers ABS-CBN Employee Who Died After Losing Job

SYLVIA SANCHEZ- Kapamilya actress recalls the conversation of her with the ABS-CBN production manager Mavic Holgado-Oducayen before passing away.

Various reactions were expressed to the denial of franchise renewal of one of the media giants in the Philippine, ABS-CBN, Last July 10. There are seventy (70) legislators who voted to reject the network’s fresh 25-year franchise.

There also Eleven (11) legislators voted for the network side. Thirty (13) hearings were held to discuss issues thrown against the network.

Some people were satisfied with the decision of the House Franchise Committee. Others are disappointed because many network employees have lost their jobs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, On July 22, ABS-CBN production manager Mavic Holgado-Oducayen died after suffering from a heart attack when he learned that he was one of the employees who lost his job due to the rejected franchise renewal application.

Ms. Mavic was a longtime employee of ABS-CBN. She was also the production manager of teleseries, Moon of Desire, Kiss, Be My Lady, and My Family.

On July 23, Sylvia Sanchez thanked the 55-year-old Kapamilya employee by posting their last photos taken together at a gathering of employees to fight for the ABS-CBN franchise.

Along with the photos of them together, she also shared their last conversation on that day. Sylvia said that when she came to the noise barrage, Ms, Mavic asked her why she still goes to the event despite her condition.

“Ibiang bat andito ka? DELIKADO sa yo! Kaka opera mo lang at kakalabas mo lang ngayon sa hospital.’ Tatlong beses mo ako pinipilit umuwi, sabi ko sayo ok lang Ms. Mavic,” Sylvia said on her post.

Sylvia remembers how Mavic showed concern for her health being a COVID-19 survivor during the time when they were protesting together in front of the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City. The actress ended her post by saying Mavic was a “good soul” and finally bid her colleague goodbye.
