Mr. Fu reveals these things about Joey de Leon
Entertainment reporter and host Mr. Fu made revelations about the years he spent working with Henyo Master Joey de Leon.
Joey and Mr. Fu worked together on TV5’s gag show Wow Mali that used the title Wow Meganon for a year. In the recent column of the entertainment reporter for Manila Bulletin, he revealed a few things about the Eat Bulaga host.
“I remember my first taping day with Sir Joey. I was nervous but I arrived on the set prepared (memorized ang lines, magaling ako dyan!). He was quiet before the shoot. He would smile but not talk to me,” Mr. Fu said.
When the camera started rolling for their spiel, the reporter/host noticed that the Henyo Master was not following the prompter. That was the point that made Mr. Fu think that he should not be clueless.
Then, Joey de Leon started to ask him questions, apparently not part of the script also, and he did his best to react to the antics of the veteran showbiz personality.
“Right after our first sequence, he looked at me and called the director and the writer. “OK ito,” he said (sabay turo sakin.) then he left for a short break. (Parang biglang may “Twilight Zone” music sa background ko!),” Mr. Fu shared.
From that, as they say, the rest was history. Wow Mali lasted for 20 long years and is being aired again on TV5 which prompted Mr. Fu to recall his years of working with the Henyo Master.
The entertainment reporter also shared that he learned a lot from Joey and one of those things is the “three letter Ts: Take 1, Timing and Travel.”
“Working on cam with Sir Joey means, no take 2s, it is always a take 1 (bawal pamali-mali sa “Wow Mali!”) He is also the king of adlibs! (dapat alam mo ang timing or else, bye!) His love for travel is very inspiring. He even coined T-rabaho, I-pon, T-ravel, E-njoy. (kaya naging feeling traveler na din ako!),” Mr. Fu added.
With this, the reporter expressed gratitude to all the people he worked with in Wow Mali, especially the staff members who almost did extra efforts in order to have the best outcome.
He also said that it is a good thing that the gag show is being shown again after five years since it went off the air. However, for Mr. Fu it is much better to revive it and he will be working again with Joey de Leon.
