Earthquake w/ 6.9 Magnitude Jolted Eastern Papua New Guinea

EARTHQUAKE – A 6.9 magnitude quake hit the eastern part of Papua New Guinea as recorded by the United States Geological Survey.

Among the natural events that can hardly be predicted are the quakes. These natural occurrences are caused by the movements of the plates and they are most common in countries lying in the Pacific Ring of Fire.

The effects of quake can vary depending on its intensity and as well as the location hit. The shaking can be hardly felt at all or it can also lead to the loss of lives and damages in structures.

A quake may also cause the rising of tsunami warnings. It happens when the natural incident took place near coastal areas.

Earthquake Papua New Guinea

Recently, the eastern part of Papua New Guinea was hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake. Based on an article Al Arabiya English, the US Geological Survey recorded the quake at a depth of 85 kilometers.

According to the report, there are no immediate reports of damages caused by the quake. Also, there are no immediate reports of casualties due to the said natural event.

However, a tsunami warning is up now for coastal areas within 180 miles. As of this writing, there are still no further details about the natural event. More updates may be posted soon.
