PNP-Maritime Masbate Chief Arrested For Extortion

PNP-MARITIME MASBATE CHIEF – A maritime police chief in Masbate City and his men were arrested for extortion on Sunday morning.

The said chief was identified as Police Major John Murray Cutaran, chief of 502nd Maritime Police Station, according to ABS-CBN News.

He, alongside with Police Staff Sergeant Rommel Naval were arrested in an entrapment operation by the Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.

Citing a testimony from a victim, Captain Mae Ann Cunanan from PNP-IMEG reported that Cutaran’s group confiscated the victim’s fishing boat and arrested 28 employees for alleged illegal fishing.

Two of his men allegedly told them that they will be released if the victims pay them P400,000.

An undercover personnel visited the said station to pay the down payment worth P200,000. They made the arrest after they confirmed the said transaction.

Based on the report, PNP-IMEG operatives are currently on the hunt for two other accomplices, identified as Police Lieutenant Melencio Huela and Police Staff Sergeant Ronaldo Puerto.

As for the chief and Naval, they are currently detained at the Masbate Provincial Police and will be charged for robbery and extortion.
