ABS-CBN Breaks Silence On Alleged P200-Million Bribe for Franchise Renewal

ABS-CBN Reacts To Alleged “Emissary” Bribe Worth P200-Million for Renewal of Franchise

ABS-CBN – The Kapamilya network broke its silence on the alleged P200-million bribe of an “emissary” for its franchise renewal.

The ABS-CBN network has yet to renew its franchise or get a new one to be back on the operation. It’s been two (2) months now since an order from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) led to the shutting down of its broadcasting operation.

The network’s broadcasting operation, the ABS-CBN News, immediately went off air following a Cease and Desist Order from the NTC. Recently, several Kapamilya programs returned to airing through the Kapamilya TV Plus and the Sky Direct of Sky Cable.

However, the airings were cut short in line with the franchise issue of the Kapamilya network. Hearings regarding the franchise were held and Congress will soon decide for its fate.

A day before the Congress is set to decide for the fate of the network’s franchise, ACT-CIS Partylist Congressman Eric Yap claimed that he received a P200-million bribe from someone who claimed to be an “emissary” of the Kapamilya network. The bribe is in exchange for his vote in favor of the franchise renewal. He refused to accept it.

Recently, the ABS-CBN broke its silence on the alleged P200-million bribe by an emissary to Congressman Yap for its franchise renewal. Based on a report on Pep, the network denied it and stressed that it believes “in the process” as it has participated in it.

Based on the report, the Kapamilya network further said that it answered all the issues raised during the previous 12 hearings held. Here’s what it said:

“ABS-CBN did not send an emissary to bribe any lawmaker to vote in favor of our franchise application. We believe in the process and we have participated in the process. We answered all issues raised in the past 12 hearings.”
