Duterte signs R.A. No. 11477
President Rodrigo Duterte signs Republic Act No. 11477 that grants the Golden Broadcast Professional Inc. its 25-year franchise.
The issue of franchise renewal of media companies has been a hot topic since late last year, especially that it involved the TV giant, ABS-CBN. A senate hearing was already conducted and the house hearing is still not finished on the network’s franchise renewal.
Amid this issue, other media companies also got involved such as the Federation of International Cable TV Associations of the Philippines (FICTAP) that accused ABS-CBN of using a shortcut when it comes to its franchise application.
An issue also surfaced involving GMA, the rival of the Kapamilya network. However, the Kapuso network said in a statement that it has renewed its franchise before it expires.
The issue even took a higher notch after ABS-CBN signed off. Supporters are fervently calling the attention of the government and criticizing those who somehow became instrumental to its shutdown such as Solicitor General Jose Calida and the National Telecommunications Commission.
Amid the signing off, the network’s executives continue to answer the allegations against their company.
On the other hand, President Duterte signs the RA No. 11477 that is granting the GDPI its franchise that will last for 25 years. Based on the post on the Official Gazette, this was signed on June 25 and was published on June 29.
“AN ACT RENEWING FOR ANOTHER TWENTY-FIVE (25) YEARS THE FRANCHISE GRANTED TO GOLDEN BROADCAST PROFESSIONAL, INC. UNDER REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8025, ENTITLED “AN ACT GRANTING THE GOLDEN BROADCAST PROFESSIONAL, INC., A FRANCHISE TO CONSTRUCT, MAINTAIN AND OPERATE A STATION FOR FM RADIO AND TELEVISION BROADCASTING IN THE ISLAND OF MINDANAO”, AND EXPANDING ITS COVERAGE TO THE ENTIRE PHILIPPINES“
The Golden Broadcast Professional Inc. is based in Zamboanga City and is affiliated with Quest Broadcasting Inc. and TV5 Network, Inc.
