“This thinking is backward,”according to Jennylyn Mercado about victim-blaming.
JENNYLYN MERCADO – Kapuso actress Jennylyn Mercado breaks silence and makes a stand about harassment and blaming the victim.
Backward thinking. – This is what Jennylyn Mercado has stated in a Facebook post about blaming the victim who was harassed and got violated. She made a stand after controversial statement of veteran broadcaster Ben Tulfo went viral.
The statement suggested that woman should learn how to dress decently when they don’t want to get raped o harassed. Accordingly, their sexy clothes attract beasts that could attack them anytime.
“Paano ninyo mairarason ang mga biktima na mga bata at matanda na hindi naman nakasuot ng sinsabing ‘sexy na pananamit’?” the actress cited on how to justify those victims who never worn provoking clothes. Moreover, the way someone dresses is not something that would give the assailant the permit to attack him or her.
She added that there is no justification why a woman was raped and there can be no excuse for someone to do this malicious and taboo act. To violate someone is never right. Respect should matter and choosing to do what is right should be done all the time.
