Vice chairman says ABS-CBN franchise must be renewed because they deserve it.
ABS-CBN FRANCHISE – Kapamilya network Vice Chairman Atty. Augusto “Jake” Almeda-Lopez tells Congress they deserve a franchise renewal.
To recall, it was last May 4 when the 25-year franchise of ABS-CBN network has expired and May 5 when the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) released a cease and desist order. This has immediately caused shut down of the network and halted its broadcasting nationwide.
Now, battling for renewal to have another 25-year franchise, they were just recently done with their 7th hearing. Among the issues tackled were the citizenship of chairman emeritus Gabby Lopez, their tax, and several others.
During the 7th hearing, Atty. Augusto “Jake” Almeda-Lopez, the Vice Chairman of ABS-CBN plead to give them the renewal because they deserve it. As a senior member, he believed this because not giving them with the renewal will deprive the people of news, entertainment, and many others.

“So, I plead to the members of Congress to give ABS-CBN a chance to show its worth and contribution to the country,” Lopez said as per PEP. He plead for the Congress to see what the network has done for the country coming from their contributions to the people, to the country, and to the television industry.
Being true to their “In the service of the Filipino” statement, he stressed and hailed several movements and advocacy of the network such as Knowledge Channel, public service programs, ABS-CBN Foundation, Bantay Bata, and Pasig River clean-up program.
