Eduardo Año Says 28 BFP Personnel Relieved From Post For Breaking Lockdown Protocols

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said that the 28 BFP personnel who gathered and partied in Boracay have been relieved from the post.

On Thursday (June 18, 2020), Eduardo Año said that the 28 personnel in the Bureau of Fire Protection Region-6 were fired for allegedly violating the lockdown protocols in the famous tourist spot Boracay Island.

One of the 28 BFP personnel in Western Visayas has tested positive for the new coronavirus disease. The female officer roamed around the island while waiting for her swab test results.

“A total of 28 personnel in the Bureau of Fire Protection Region-6 were relieved of their positions and of course they are undergoing quarantine,” Año said.

Año lambasted BFP-6 chief Fire Senior Superintendent Roderick Aguto due to the incident. The BFP employees reportedly arrived at the tourist destination on June 12, 2020 for a meeting and party.

“When she arrived in Boracay on June 12 along with companions, she joined the other Bureau of Fire Protection personnel on Boracay. They went on a meeting and later on they had some drinking and eating and then on June 14, that was the time the result came out and she turned out positive,” Año added.

The Interior Secretary explained that the COVID-19 positive BFP employee breached the quarantine guidelines wherein she must observe a 14-day quarantine period after undergoing a rapid or swab test.

The other 27 BFP personnel also violated the physical distancing rules for having a mass gathering and party. 24 hotel staff and the boatmen who serviced the officials have been also placed on quarantine.
