This was also a safety measure to further curb the COVID-19 threat, according to a report from GMA News.

Usually, passport applicants could pay for passport fees via over-the-counter payments. This requires them to leave their homes and head to the nearest accredited payment center.

“This new system of paying through credit and debit cards offers faster and real-time payment without having to leave the safety of their own homes,”

Applicants still have the option to make over-the-counter payments and to pick up their passport at the consular office where they made their application. However, in light of the pandemic, the DFA urges them to avail of the online payment system and courier service in order to prevent being exposed to the virus.

Based on the report, it has collaborated with PayMAya Philippines Inc. to allow more payments options for the transacting public.
