Modified EDSA: Center Lane Bus Stops To Be Established By MMDA
MODIFIED EDSA: BUS STOPS – According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General (MMDA), center lanes in EDSA would be made into bus stops.
As areas begin to ease restrictions during the enhanced community quarantine, the MMDA imposed new traffic laws. Starting on Monday, bus lanes would be transferred to the inner lanes of EDSA from the side of MRT.
Much like what they did in the Quezon Avenue station MRT, the center island in the station was removed to make way for a bust stop for passengers.
In order to get to the new bus stops, passengers would have to go up to the MRT station on go down so they could reach the center island. Additionally, footbridges in EDSA would also be utilized as bus stops.
Furthermore, according to an article from ABS-CBN, orange barriers have now been placed to serve as a guide for the buses. Along with this, the MMDA emphasized that private vehicles are not allowed in the bus lanes.
However, passengers would need to walk to their destinations if the bus stop is far away from it. Meanwhile, according to the MMDA, there would still be a second phase of the modified EDSA. Also, the MMDA said they aimed to place a bus stop every four kilometers.
Metro Manila, despite having an increased number of cases of COVID-19 would be placed under a General Community Quarantine on June 1. Previously, the Metro was on an Enhanced Community Quarantine.
In lieu of this, experts fear that the Philippines had lowered the quarantine restrictions prematurely and risk potentially exponential numbers of COVID-19 cases.
