DOTr releases GCQ transportation guidelines in two phases.
GCQ TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has finally released a set of guidelines as various areas will shift to GCQ.
Various areas in the country will shift to general community quarantine months after being lock down due to pandemic coronavirus. The community quarantine is the government’s approach in order to prevent the spread of the viral disease in the country.

And on Friday, May 29, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) released a set of guidelines as some areas will be under GCQ starting June 1. Accordingly, there will be two phases: June 1 to 21 is Phase 1 and June 22 to 30 is Phase 2.
June 1 to 21 [Phase 1]
- In limited passenger capacity, trains and bus augmentation, taxis, TNVS, shuttle services, Point-to-Point buses, and bicycles are allowed to operate.
- Tricycles are allowed provided that they have approval of their LGU.
- Provincial buses are not allowed to enter Manila.
June 22 to 30 [Phase 2]
- Public Utility Buses (PUBs), Modern PUVs, and UV Express can operate again along with other modes of transportation stated in the Phase 1. Strictly limited passenger capacity.
- 1-meter social distance rule between passengers inside ALL the PUVs and mass transport units in accordance to the impose health protocols.

Modernizations initiatives will also be implemented so as to lessen physical contact or face-to-face interaction such as automatic fare collection system (AFCS) for cashless payment transactions, electronic toll collection, and GNSS/GPS. DOTr is also pushing through licensing registration and others to be done online.
Moreover, according to DOTr, strict sanitary measure for public transportation will be imposed such as the following:
- Wearing of face masks at all times
- Implementation cashless payments to avoid contact
- Use of thermal scanners
- Availability of alcohol and sanitizers in Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs)
- Disinfection of high-touch surfaces of vehicles
- Establishment of disinfection facilities in various public transport terminals
- Contact Tracing
