Elderly & Vulnerable Prioritized For COVID-19 Vaccine When Ready
VACCINE: ELDERLY, VULNERABLE PRIORITIZED – It has been known that the new coronavirus is more deadly to the elderly and vulnerable.
As such, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque stated that the government already had a vaccination plan in place. He said the government would prioritize the elderly and vulnerable once the vaccine is ready.
Meron na po talaga tayong in place na vaccination plan. Sanay na naman tayo magbigay ng bakuna sa ating kababayayan so meron na tayong nabuong plano kung paano talaga i-implement ang vaccination as soon as it is available
Following this, Roque stressed that the global demand for the vaccine would mean it wouldn’t be made available for all at first. Additionally, according to an article from GMA, Roque stated:
You can imagine, dahil ito’y kinakailangan ng buong daigdig ay hindi naman kinakailangan na biglaan magkaroon tayo ng vaccine for all
Afterward, Roque said that they would prioritize those vulnerable to the deadly disease. Additionally, he stressed that the government may shoulder the cost of the vaccine for people who can’t afford it.
As per the article, Roque also added that PhilHealth may also cover the cost of the vaccine. Meanwhile, President Rodrigo Duterte stated that a vaccine could be created as early as January next year.
However, he stated that until the time a vaccine comes. Filipinos should just have a strong immune system to fend off the virus from entering the body.
Currently, the Philippines has over 11,000 cases of COVID-19 confirmed. But, some areas have already begun easing quarantine protocols and reopening businesses.
Thus, some experts believe that the reopening of the economy may be too soon and would cause another wave of the virus.
