Roque Says ‘Philippines, Province Of China’ Geotag Is Fake News
PHILIPPINES – Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the ‘Philippines, Province of China’ geotag is fake news.
Following a previous article, social media platforms Facebook and Instagram included “Philippines, Province of China” as a check-in location. It is now available through Geotagging.
Pinoy netizens were furious after learning that their favorite social media platforms have included it in their new check-in location. It even became one of the trending topics on Twitter.
Based on a report from One News, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the geotag “Philippines, Province of China” is “fake news.” It has been two years since President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joked about that provincial status. During the press briefing on Monday, the spokesperson said its ‘fake news’ and then refused to give a comment on the issue.
According to the report, the legal officer of the International Committee of the Red Cross Delegation to the Philippines, Monalisa Barro said she’s not interested to know who masterminded the “Philippines, Province of China” geotag. She said she just want to correct the error as soon as possible.
“Hindi po ako interesado malaman kung sino ang may kagagawan ng geotag na ito, bakit at paano ito nangyari. interesado po ako na maitama ang pagkakamaling ito sa lalong madaling panahon,” she said.
Meanwhile, Senator Risa Hontiveros told her followers on Twitter to mass report the fallacious geotag. She said “kahit “biro” pa itong Philippines Province of China na geotag, wag nating hayaang ma-normalize ito. Let’s mass report!”
“I-tap at i-hold ang location tapos pindutin ang “not a public space” para matanggal ito. Let’s go! We’re not a province of China. Not now, not ever!” she added.
