Photo of Mocha Uson At NBI Office To Explain Pandemic “Fake News”
MOCHA USON – Dancer-turned-public servant Mocha Uson appeared before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to explain pandemic “fake news.”
Filipina singer and dancer Margaux “Mocha” Uson is a pro-Duterte blogger. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed her as the deputy director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
The former dancer-turned-public servant has been involved in several controversies that prompted lawmakers and groups to file complaints against her. Until now, lots of Filipinos are questioning her competency.
Last month, OWWA Deputy Executive Director Mocha Uson uploaded photos of the personal protective equipment (PPE) that’s supposedly bought by the Philippine government. Lots of netizens reacted saying she used SM Foundation’s photos.
Following a previous article, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) issued a subpoena to Uson for sharing “fake news” on social media. NBI spokesperson Ferdinand Lavin said, “Yes, she is being investigated by out Crime Division for fake news.”
People who are spreading misleading informtion on social media platforms about the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic will be sent to jail or pay P10,000 to P1 million fine. On Monday, May 18, Mocha Uson appeared before the NBI.
Based on section 6 of ‘Bayanihan Act,’ “Individuals or groups creating, perpetuating, or spreading false information regarding the COVID-19 crisis on social media and other platforms, such information having no valid of beneficial effect on the population, and are clearly geared to promote chaos, panic, anarchy, fear, or confusion; and those participating in cyber incidents that make us or take advantage of the current crisis situation to prey on the public through scams, phishing, fraudulent emails, or other similar acts.”

The controversial official showed up at the agency wearing a face mask and shades. ABS-CBN News share Uson’s photo on Twitter.
