Occidental Mindoro Hit by Earthquake with 2.8 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 2.8 magnitude quake in Occidental Mindoro, May 18, 2020.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Occidental Mindoro. At 06:43 am, May 18, 2020, Abra de Ilog was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Occidental Mindoro was located at 13.61°North, 120.60°East – 023 km North 37° West of Abra De Ilog. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 118 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in a bulletin that there are no expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks. No intensity was recorded of the said quake.
