Top Virologist Warns Of Uncontrollable Outbreak If Lockdown Exited Early

LIFTING LOCKDOWN – The top virologist from the United States warns of an uncontrollable outbreak to areas lifting quarantine early.

Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease expert from the US gave stark words concerning even cautiously lifting lockdown. Furthermore, he emphasized how doing so could lead to the second wave of COVID-19.

In the Philippines, some areas were tagged by the government’s COVID-19 Task Force as “low risk”. As such, some of these areas have announced lifting their quarantine.

However, this decision was made despite the lack of testing in the country. For the most part, high-risk areas such as Manila and Cebu are those that have begun community-wide testings.

If a community or a state or region doesn’t go by those guidelines and reopens, the consequences could be really serious.

There is a real risk that you will trigger an outbreak that you may not be able to control

One of the biggest factors for lifting the quarantine is attempting to restart the economy. According to CNA, Fauci warned that easing lockdown protocols prematurely might affect the economy negatively in the long run.

One of the most notable examples of this is Japan which had effectively cut the spread of the virus. However, some islands such as Hokkaido lifted lockdown protocols too early and suffered a second wave of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, only time could tell the fate of those areas prematurely lifting quarantine protocols. Following May 15, some areas would be lifting their quarantine status.

Currently, the Philippines has topped 11,000 reported COVID-19. Additionally, the death toll due to the virus has climbed over 720 with at least 2,000 patients recovering.
