PNP Chief Gamboa Defends Sinas Birthday Celebration After Draw Backlash Online
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Archie Gamboa defended National Capital Region Office (NCRPO) chief Debold Sinas over birthday celebration during the COVID-19 crisis.
The probe prompted after the celebration of drew backlash for supposedly flouting physical distancing and mass gathering guidelines. But the PNP chief said on Tuesday, he does not see any violation committed by the Major General.
“Una, walang party’ng nangyari ang sabi ni Gen. [Debold] Sinas. Probably nagkaroon ng mañanita pero doon sa mañanita ang sabi ni Gen. Sinas is that inobserve pa rin nila ‘yong mga social distancing. Now, I don’t think na meron namang violation ito,” he said in his virtual press briefing.
“Now, I don’t think naman na mayroong violation ito. Mayroon ‘yung ginawa niyang programa kasi parang inecourage niya lahat ng kaniyang personnel even down to the pcp na magbigay ng ayuda as part of his celebration, he assured me that physical distancing was observed. Kung mayroon man, I will look into it,” he added.
However, Gamboa said he still trust the Metro Manila’s top cop. The NCRPO held Sinas an early birthday celebration on Friday, May 8. NCRPO Public Information Office posted some photos on its Facebook page showing police are giving SInas roses and cakes.
According to the report, Sinas was also spotted on the photo mingling at the table while others lined up at the buffet meals. Some of the photos on the NCRPO Public Information Office’s page were deleted. Sinas has still not released a statement yet.
