Update from Palace on 2nd Tranche of SAP Cash Aid

PALACE – Malacanang spoke on the 2nd tranche of the Social Amelioratioon Program (SAP) cash aid amid the COVID-19 crisis.

A lot of Filipino families are financially struggling now. It is because of the coronavirus or COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines which caused a lot of people to lose their monthly income.

There is a widespread implementation of community quarantines around the nation. Everyone’s reminded to stay at home and to only go out for essential purposes.

Amid the quarantine, several businesses temporarily suspended their operation. Most of these are non-essential businesses while the essential ones continued their operation under a skeletal system.

To help the poor Filipino families, the government launched the Social Amelioration Program (SAP). The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is tasked to assess the applicants and those who are qualified will receive the cash aid.

The said cash aid is between Php 5,000.00 to Php 8,000.00. The program initially targeted 18 million poor families.

Currently, several areas in the country are now under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Also, many areas were already given the green sign to lift the GCQ after May 15.

With regards to areas that will still be under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Palace said that the poor families may receive their 2nd tranche of cash aid under SAP.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the limited funds is the reason why only the poor families in areas under ECQ may get their SAP cash aid. The Palace’s spokesperson also stressed that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved 5 million more families in the first tranche.

“Hindi lang 18 million ang mabibigyan po ng SAP (Social Amelioration Program) sa first tranche, madadagdagan pa po ng 5 million,” Roque expressed based on the report.

According to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), 1,265 LGUs met the deadline for the SAP cash aid distribution. It was set on Sunday.
