Cebu City Surpasses Quezon With Highest Number Of Coronavirus Cases
CEBU CITY COVID-19 – Cebu City overtook Quezon with a total of 1,571 coronavirus cases on Sunday, May 10.
Previously, Cebu City had a total of 1,474 cases but added an additional 97. Meanwhile, Quezon City had 1,558 coronavirus cases, only increasing its count by 35.
Additionally, the Cebu City Health Department (CHD) also recorded one new fatality due to COVID-19. As such, the city’s total number of fatalities has risen to 12.
According to a report from Cebu Daily News, 43 of the 97 new cases were from Barangay Mambaling in Cebu City. Moreover, they were found as residents of the following areas:
- Sitio Tinabangay
- Puntod
- Alaska Proper
Barangay Mambaling now has 601 reported cases of the virus. As such, it is now considered as Cebu City’s new coronavirus hotspot. Furthermore, the barangay also has a large population density.
Another 40 cases were also documented in Sitio Upper Bacayan in Barangay Bacayan, one of the hinterland villages in the city. This area borders Barangays Talamban and San Jose.
As per the report, the CHD also stated that they took at least 2,457 samples from individuals from Alaska Mambaling, Cebu City Jail, Barangay Kalunasan, Lahug, and Tejero.
In lieu of this, the CHD stated that contract tracing teams would further verify and look into the identified patients. Additionally, they would be closely monitored.
Due to the aggressive testing done in Cebu City, the number of reported COVID-19 cases continued to rise. As of May 7, the city has conducted over 10,300 coronavirus tests.
