Indian Residents Gathered & Violate Physical Distancing Measures After Liquor Shops Reopened
Indian residents break the social distancing measures amid the health crisis after liquor stores reopened across India.
Earlier this week, numerous liquor shops across India have reopened again after closing for over a month due to the lockdown protocols aiming to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.
Hundreds of customers line up breaking the quarantine orders including the physical distancing measure just to buy alcoholic beverages, the queuing reached more than a mile in several areas.
Thirsty Indians seem to be unstoppable and jostling to buy liquors after 40 days. The police intervened to control the situation and to stop the residents from shoving each other while queuing.
The Delhi government decided to open the liquor store after several state leaders pushed for the opening of the shops since sales from alcohol is the major source of tax revenue. The government is trying to boost revenue, which was badly affected by the pandemic.
A certain resident also expressed its disappointment due to the incident and prefers to close the liquor store. “The government should just keep the liquor shops shut if such crowds are going to gather,” a Delhi resident said.
