Loyal Viewer of ABS-CBN Destroys TV After They Went Off-Air
ABS-CBN – A loyal viewer of the ABS-CBN network smashed up his tv after the broadcasting network went off-air.
Last year, the franchise renewal of the largest tv network in the Philippines, ABS-CBN, has been the subject of much controversy especially when President Rodrigo Roa Duterte expressed his side about the issue. Last December, he said he will make sure that the network won’t be able to renew its franchise.
“Ikaw, ABS-CBN, you’re a mouthpiece of… If you are expecting na ma-renew ‘yan, I’m sorry. You’re out,” Duterte said.
Supporters of ABS-CBN rallied behind the media company that has been part of many lives for several decades. Its franchise renewal issue even faced a big problem when Solicitor General Jose Calida asked the Supreme Court to revoke its franchise.
Calida warned the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) after it granted the network a provisional authority (PA). He said, “there is no such law giving the NTC or any other agency the power to grant franchises to broadcasting entities.”
On Tuesday, May 5, the NTC issued a Cease and Desist order against the Kapamilya network. The radio stations of the network should also follow the order.
The tv network went off-air at 7:46 with the lead anchors Ted Failon, Bernadette Sembrano, and Noli De Castro expressing their gratitude to their loyal viewers. Before they signed off, the former vice president struck a defiant tone.
“We will not remain silent on this attack to our democracy,” said Noli.
Moments after ABS-CBN went off the air, a video of a man destroying his tv went viral on social media. The video was shared on ‘Daddies Ka Uling Tv’ Facebook Page.
It can be seen in the video that he remove the tv from the wall to smash it on the floor. He said their tv is now useless because his tv network has shut down and he will never watch shows from GMA-7.
