May 4 is ABS-CBN expiration date, what will happen next to the network?

ABS-CBN EXPIRATION – Media giant ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise is expiring today, May 4, and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque speaks about this.

May 4 is the date for the franchise of ABS-CBN network to expire and as of this writing, their case is still pending. According to House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano the case is still pending in the House of Representatives, thus, there were no moves yet regarding the close down accordingly.

Solicitor General (SolGen) Jose Calida, on the other hand, warned the  National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) over provisional authority they will grant to ABS-CBN Corp. and its affiliate ABS-CBN Convergence to operate. They might accordingly face charges. With this, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque speaks about this.

Now, is there any chance for President Duterte to intervene especially now that amid the health crisis, media plays a vital role to extend news and details to the people? Roque answered that this matter is something that NTC must deal with. The President will then implement whatever the decision of NTC will be.

All the questions and law regarding the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN will be taken cared of the NTC and if they have decided already, the President will then follow according to video of the interview.

Based on report from Inquirer, what’s making this franchise renewal case take so long? Cayetano answered that there are other “more urgent” being prioritized than the ABS-CBN case. It is written in Republic Act No. 3846 for television and radio broadcasting companies to have a franchise secured from the government so they could continue their full operation.
