COVID-19 Update by DOH Today (May 1, 2020)

DOH – The Department of Health released an update about the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines today, May 1, 2020.

Today marks the first day of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) in the Philippines due to COVID-19 cases in the country. From the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), low-risk areas now will be implementing the GCQ until May 15.

For those areas considered as high-risk based on the assessment and recommendation of the National Inter-Agency Task Force against COVID-19, the ECQ is extended until May 15.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the recommendation of the National IATF. Bacolod City in Visayas appealed to the agency to allow them to extend their ECQ until May 15 and it was granted by the President.

Still, everyone is reminded to limit going outdoors for essential purposes only, to practice proper hygiene, and to practice social distancing.

Daily, the Department of Health (DOH) releases an update regarding the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines. For today, May 1, 2020, 284 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in the country.

Following the recent addition, there is now a total of 8,772 cases of coronavirus confirmed in PH and the death is at 579. Eleven (11) new deaths were recorded.

According to the health department, 41 coronavirus patients recently recovered. It brings the total recoveries to 1,084.
