Boy Abunda Reacts To ‘House Arrest’ Rule For Senior Citizens

Boy Abunda Asks ITAF To Reconsider ‘House Arrest’ Rule For Senior Citizens

BOY ABUNDA – ABS-CBN talk show host Boy Abunda asked the Inter-Agency Task Force (ITAF) to reconsider the ‘house arrest’ rule for senior citizens.

We can’t deny that our lives have changed since the 2019 novel coronavirus struck. Most people now are working inside their homes, lesser cars roam outside, and kids are not allowed to go out and play due to the virus.

The pandemic has greatly affected the daily wage earners in the Philippines. Some of these poor workers are senior citizens.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) barred senior citizens who are living in “enhanced community quarantine” or “general community quarantine” areas from leaving their homes.

Based on a report from PEP, the move elicited a reaction from the ‘King of Talk’ Boy Abunda. The host who is also a senior citizen said the IATF should rethink its resolution because for him it’s discriminatory.

“They’re marginalizing a big part of the population, lalo na yung 60 to 65 years old… maganda yung intent ng panukala, pero ang pananaw ko, there’s a big chunk of healthy seniors…”

“And nalaman natin in the past months that COVID-19 just doesn’t attack seniors, although vulnerable sila… pero kung titingnan mo ang data ay walang piniling edad,” he added.

According to the report, Boy Abunda said lots of seniors are still strong. Some of them even work for the government or still manning their own business.

He said he understands that the regulation is for the safety of all Filipinos but they have to evaluate it again or reconsider the policy.

“The intent is good, pero sa palagay ko, 60 is the new 50. Ang dami lang madi-disenfranchise na mga senior who can contribute so much in this time of crisis.”

“Pero ako, halimbawa, in normal times, it’s really discriminatory… It’s marginalizing healthy seniors,” he added.
