Man In Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur Arrested For Illegal Gambling

SANTA CRUZ – A man in Santa Cruz town, Davao Del Sur, was recently arrested and will be charged for illegal cockfighting and ECQ violation.

The Police Regional Office in Davao reported that the man was arrested for illegal cockfighting after a citizen tipped official of a cockfighting activity in Sitio Lu-ay, Barangay Zone II in the said town, according to SunStar,

At around 11:35 AM on April 26, the man, identified as Rocil Batawan Eled, aged 44, married, a laborer from Purok Lanzones, Barangay Zone 2, was caught red-handed in engaging in the said illegal activity. Retrieved from him were two fighting roosters.

The local Municipal Police Station further said that the arrest of Eled will be a public reminder to refrain from illegal gambling as the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is still implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Filmore Escobal, director of PRO-Davao said that police officers are not being complacent amid crisis, adding that their police units conducts law enforcement operations against illegal gambling.

As per the report, Eled is currently under the custody of the local Municipal Police Station, and will be charged for the following:

  • violation of Presidential Decree 449 also known as Cockfighting Law
  • Article 151 or known as the Resistance and Disobedience to a person in authority or the agents of such person;
  • Republic Act No. 11332, or also known as the Mandatory reporting of Notifiable diseases and health events of public concern act.
