GMA Network Urges Public To Beware Of Fake Kapuso Celebrity Accounts
GMA NETWORK – GMA Network recently advised the public to beware of fake Kapuso celebrity accounts trying to collect sensitive information.
In their official news website, they initially noted that a Facebook account using the name of Marian Rivera claimed that she was giving away ₱5,000 to those who will send a private message.
Meanwhile, another Facebook account using the name “Maine Mendoza” also claimed that the network and its noontime show “Eat Bulaga” will give away ₱5,000 to ₱50,000 cash prizes.
Rams David, the manager of both Kapuso celebrities, clarified that they denounced these fake social media accounts that used their names and photos.
There is another phishing account under the name “Bossing TV”, pretending to be “Vic Sotto” who claimed that he was giving away cash to those who comment their name, address and contact number.
The network also cited another account that was created for a Kapuso mommies’ project entitled “Project Alalay Kay Nanay,”, which aims to help mothers who are affected by the enhanced community quarantine.
As per the report, the Philippine National Police (PNP) urged the public to be more mindful of fake accounts and provide sensitive information on social media.
“Malaki po yung tiyansa na ito nga po ay gagamitin po sa hindi magandang gawain ng mga mapagsamantala po na mga cybercriminals kagaya po ng ating mga contact numbers (at) address,”
“Ina-advise din po natin ang ating mga artista na nagiging biktima nitong mga computer-related identity theft na sila po ay mag post ng disclaimer,”
