Duterte To Give P50 Million Reward For Group That Finds COVID-19 Cure
CORONAVIRUS CURE – President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he would increase the reward for a COVID-19 cure to P50 Million.
Despite calls from researchers and other senators, Duterte increased the bounty for the cure instead of investing it in Research and Development. Moreover, President Duterte stated that if he was happy with the cure, he would add another P50 million.
Wag kayong mahiya, tanggapin niyo iyan, total, sabihin “Mayor ginawa namin ito para sa bayan”.
Kung ayaw niyo, isauli ko ito kay Dominguez basta hindi na ito ma ibalik.
Furthermore, he emphasized that whatever Europeans and Americans could know and do, the Filipino could do just as well. Afterward, Duterte said “pabilisan lang yan” (to find a cure).
Additionally, Duterte asked Health Secretary Francisco Duque III if Filipino scientists needed additional funding. However, Duque stated that these scientists already have the funding for vaccine research.
Yung PCHRD which is I think attached to the Department of Science and Technology, mayroon naman po silang pondo para sa pagpapatuloy ng research for vaccine production.
But, I’m not sure if this particular vaccine that they are developing is specifically for COVID-19. Aalamin ko pa po kung isinama na po nila ito sa kanilang kasalukuyang research work.
Meanwhile, Duterte said that all he wants from the scientists is their dedication and quality of work. As such, he announced that if ever Filipino scientists want additional funding, if its not too big, all they needed to do is asked.
Duterte explained that due to the tight budget the Philippines currently has, additional funding might not be that big.
