PWD Vendor Keeps on Peddling Vegetables Despite COVID-19 Threat
A Person with Disability (PWD) vendor keeps on peddling and selling vegetables amid coronavirus disease (COVID-19) threat and existing ECQ.
As the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is still ongoing and still eyes to be extended after April 30, to the curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Philippines, lots of Filipinos have difficulties finding a source of income.
Despite government cash assistance, there are still poor people who are taking the risk to sell for living because some of them are not included in the list of beneficiaries of the cash aid. As a result, some of them are getting apprehended for violating ECQ rules.
A Facebook page named DXSF FM shared a pitiful situation of a disabled person who still continues to peddle his vegetables despite the risk of getting infected by the virus and being arrested enhanced community quarantine.
According to the post, the disabled person was identified as Premitivo Payod also known as “Tiboy”, a vegetable peddler and resident of Purok 6, Brgy.4 San Francisco Agusan del Sur. He has also three kids living with him.
He allegedly peddles his products at the bus terminal but due to ECQ, he was unable to sell his veggies. Despite his condition, he is forced to walk for kilometers just to sell his products with his bike because he’s unsure that he could get the Social Amelioration Subsidy from the government.
Meanwhile, after the post has gone viral on social media lots of generous people immediately reach out to give some assistance to him. While other concerned citizens hand out what they can afford because they are also relying on the assistance.
