Donald Trump Offers More Aid To PH’s Fight Against COVID-19
DONALD TRUMP – United States President Donald Trump offered more aid to the Philippines fight against the 2019 novel coronavirus pandemic.
So far, the Philippine government has released about P270 billion to fight the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) disease. They allotted P200 billion to address the daily needs of low-income households.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte previously said that P270 billion is not enough for coronavirus relief efforts. In a previous article, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Malacañang Palace is considering auctioning the “Hawaiian Collection” of former first lady Imelda Marcos.
In a televised address, President Duterte said he would sell the government’s assets just to save all Filipinos from the COVID-19 pandemic. “What is the endgame? If we really run out of money, I will sell all the property of the government,” he said.
Based on a report from GMA News, the United States embassy said on Tuesday, April 21, said President Donald Trump offered additional aid to the Philippines as it fights the COVID-19 pandemic. The American politician made the offer during his telephone conversation with Duterte on Sunday, April 19.
“Both leaders agreed to continue working together as ling-time allies to defeat the pandemic, save lives, and restore global economic strength,” the US embassy said.
According to the report, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez said the PH embassy in Washington D.C. joins forces with the US government to continue their bilateral cooperation during the coronavirus pandemic.
In March 2020, the US provided P204 million to help the Philippines fight against the coronavirus.
