Direk Joey Reyes Reveals Reason Why Pinoys Obsessed W/ K-Dramas
DIREK JOEY REYES – In Direk Joey Reyes’ blog called “Choking on My Adobo,” he shared his opinion on why Filipinos are obsessed with Korean dramas.
Millions of Asians, especially Filipinos are attracted to Korean dramas. It has become part of some Pinoys’ daily life now.
Korean actors are undeniably good-looking, cute, attractive, and at the same time talented. Recently, Filipino writer and director Joey Reyes explained the reason why lots of Filipinos are obsessed with K-dramas.
Direk Joey Reyes revealed on his blog ‘Choking on My Adobo‘ that he spends free time watching Korean drama amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He said he recently watched Netflix’s hit series “Crash Landing On You.”
“After so many hours of each predictable, more-of-the-same day of quarantine, K-drama has suddenly become part of my survival kit” he said.
Last April 9, he took to Twitter to ask why lots of Filipinos love K-dramas.
Direk Joey Reyes received an overwhelming response from the K-drama lovers. He took to his platform to air his thoughts.
“What particularly struck me was the keen mind and observation used by those who responded. I was not getting hogwash answers: I was getting answers from thinking members of the audience who are reacting to what has been given to them not by Koreanovelas alone but by the local products in the form of mainstream teleseryes,” he wrote.
The prominent director said the scripts of Korean dramas are so well-written. Creators make use of stereotypes but “never diminished to the two-dimensional or the cliche.” Viewers will never get bored watching tv series created by Koreans because there are lots of genres to choose from.
“What makes KDrama so interesting is because they are iba-iba, You do not get trapped with more of the same kinds of stories because the Korean producers uproot all kinds of possible genres in order to provide entertainment.”
