There are 8 movie entries for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. It is a fact that there are movies which have a positive feedback from moviegoers. Those films are the top grossing films.

On the other hand, there are movies in MMFF that are not as appealing as others in the eyes of the moviegoers.

Because of this, there are cinema owners who are prioritizing the movies with large number of audience.

And so, they cut-short the showing days of those which are not that popular.

In line with this situation, Direk Joey Reyes aired his sentiments through his recent post on Twitter.

Here is the tweet of the director:

“I do understand the “business” side of exhibiting movies but if you invite & select 8 entries, please give those underperforming a chance to show until the weekend before you pull them out to replace with the top grossers. Iba ang negosiyante sa sugapa.”

With regards to this point of view from Reyes, several netizens also expressed the same thought.

Here are some of the comments from netizens:

“Totoo yan direk…may mga movie na maganda ang story pero hinde nabibigyan ng screening time like ng nangyari sa Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino…pag di sikat ang mga bida, isa lang screening time sa sinehan…hayz…sayang lang mga dekalidad na pelikula pg di naipalabas s sinehan”

“Agree, direk. Filmfest entries should have equal distribution of theaters and wait for the weekend for the outcome of each film. The reason a movie is a top grosser because it has many theaters compared to others and they should’nt rejoice about it.”

“There should be a law requiring minimum screening days for locally-made films. How is it possible for better-quality films to be produced for appreciation by Filipinos if theater owners dictate what and how long films are shown?”
